Visiting the Roman ruins -August 7, 2010

From the place or square of St. John, you can see Fourviére up on the hill. We drove up toward the cathedral but stopped to see the Roman ruins just below. The ruins are a giant amphitheater that seated thousands of people during the Roman era. Today it is used as a concert venue during the summer.

End of a fun day with the Doyles- August 7, 2010

After seeing the Roman ruins, we drove on up the hill to Fourviére, the large cathedral that overlooks Lyon. From that wonderful vantage point, we could see Lyon stretched out before us. In the first picture, you can see a tall brown building in the center. That is the Radisson or the "pencil." It is at the end of our street, Rue Tête D'Or. When we see this landmark, we know that our apartment is in that area.

By that time, we were getting hungry, so we came back to Old Lyon and found the street where the restaurants that feature true Lyonnais food are located. I am sorry to say that the restaurant we chose did not live up to our expectations, but the company was the greatest. We certainly enjoyed sightseeing around Lyon with our friends.

August 4 through 7, 2010- Missionary Training in Lyon

A four day training was held at the Ecully chapel for the elders and sisters from the Lyon area. There were 42 in attendance and they met each day for special training on how to teach from Preach My Gospel. Sister Murdock and I made chicken a la king for Wednesday's lunch. Thursday they had Dominos Pizza, and Friday Soeur Henry made her special lunch. On Saturday, they had Subway sandwiches. They all love American fast food. In the final photo, Elder Badger is washing some of the large pots and pans after Soeur Henry's meal.

This was our final "Break the Fast" meal at the Lyon Center for Young Adults. We had a good turn-out and they all seemed to enjoy the meal and the company of one another. Yue from China and Denise from Mexico are the two beautiful young women in the second photo. We celebrated Landry's birthday in the third photo.
